Neonatal Intensive Care at Baptist Health System

When babies need specialized care after birth for prematurity, complications during delivery, congenital birth defects or signs of distress after birth, they may need to be admitted to a neonatal intensive care unit (NICU).

With locations around San Antonio and two Level IV NICUs providing the highest level of neonatal care available, Baptist Health System is proud to provide high-level neonatal care to families in San Antonio, New Braunfels and the surrounding communities.

NICU Services

Our NICUs offer comprehensive neonatal services for infants and their families, including:

  • Board-certified neonatologists
  • Neonatal nurse practitioners
  • Experienced neonatal nursing staff
  • Newborn critical care
  • Hypothermia therapy
  • Neonatal and pediatric subspecialty support
  • Respiratory therapy and nutrition management
  • Lactation support from certified lactation consultants
  • Newborn and maternal transport

NICU Locations

The Nest at Baptist Health System includes four NICUs across San Antonio and New Braunfels:

  1. North Central Baptist Hospital (Level IV NICU)
  2. St. Luke's Baptist Hospital (Level IV NICU
  3. Mission Trail Baptist Hospital (Level II NICU)
  4. Resolute Baptist Hospital (Level II NICU)

If your baby is born at Mission Trail Baptist Hospital or Resolute Baptist Hospital and needs more advanced care, neonatal and maternal transport is available to safely transport them to one of our Level IV NICUs.

You may not be planning for your baby to spend time in the NICU after birth, but you can rest easier knowing your baby is in compassionate, experienced hands with Baptist Health System's NICU teams.

While a NICU stay can be emotional, challenging and scary for families, our staff is always available to answer questions and provide support. A case worker is assigned to every NICU family to assist with accessing external resources.
