Baptist hospital employees get into the spirit of Blood Drive Challenge, encourage donations from community

(San Antonio, TX) ­­– Baptist Health System is proud to partner with the South Texas Blood & Tissue Center (STB&T) Aug. 23 to Aug. 26 for the system’s first “Baptist Healthcare Heroes Blood Drive Challenge” system-wide competition. The competition is among Baptist’s six hospitals -- Baptist Medical Center, downtown; Mission Trail Baptist Hospital on the south side; Northeast Baptist Hospital; North Central Baptist Hospital in Stone Oak; St. Luke’s Baptist in the Medical Center; and Resolute Baptist Hospital in New Braunfels. The hospital with the most staff donations during this drive will receive honors at the end of the drive from the STB&T Center.

Although the competition is among hospital staff, everyone is invited and encouraged to donate blood to the STB&T Center.

During the summer months, blood donations are down. With rapid population growth in San Antonio and across South Texas, the demand for blood has increased faster than donations. Blood donations helps keep blood products readily available for patients in hospitals and across the city who are in need. Every two seconds, someone is in need of blood to help them survive through a traumatic injury, surgery, illness or cancer treatment. One in seven patients entering the hospital will need at least one transfusion.
