(San Antonio, TX) – San Antonio) – The South Texas Medical Center has a new hospital president joining its ranks this year. St. Luke’s Baptist Hospital has named Vicki Gulczewski, RN, M.S.N., as its hospital chief executive officer (CEO). Hard work, experience and commitment to patients in the medical center community earned Gulczewski a promotion from COO to CEO at St. Luke’s Baptist Hospital where she began her new duties on Aug. 1.
Matt Stone, Group CEO of Baptist Health System, said Gulczewski was the right choice to lead the medical center hospital, which has grown its nationally recognized programs of care including its comprehensive stroke center, highest-level (Level IV) of care Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) and orthopedic care programs, among others. Earlier this year, St. Luke’s Baptist unveiled nearly $3 million in enhancements to its Women’s Tower that sets its women’s services apart as a patient-centered boutique experience in the Medical Center.
“Vicki was the obvious choice to lead St. Luke’s as she brings a wealth of clinical experience and operational acumen to the role during a pivotal time in our healthcare industry,” Stone said. “Vicki not only connects with patients in San Antonio, she is well respected by our physicians and staff. She brings a unique and valuable perspective that helped steer St. Luke’s forward throughout the Covid pandemic and to our current successes. I am confident she will continue to lead us to future growth and success,” Stone said.
Gulczewski, an experienced RN and administrator, has worked for Baptist Health System for nearly 30 years. She has cared for patients at the bedside and guided healthcare teams through roles she’s held including as: associate chief nursing officer, director of critical care, charge nurse of adult intensive care, pediatric intensive care coordinator, as well as nursing leadership roles in imaging services, and in intensive and diabetic care.
Most recently, Gulczewski was COO of St. Luke’s Baptist, a position she held since 2015. As COO she oversaw daily operations of the hospital including all support and clinical services, surgical services, neurosciences, and cardiology services. She also served as market COO and executive sponsor for surgical services, respiratory therapy, environmental services and critical care.
Gulczewski is an award-winning professional. She earned a Master of Science in Nursing Administration from the University of Texas at Arlington and a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from University of the Incarnate Word in San Antonio. She completed her RN diploma from Misericordia General Hospital School of Nursing in Winnipeg, Manitoba, in Canada.
