Maternal Transport

North Central Baptist Hospital

Maternal transport at North Central Baptist Hospital in the Stone Oak area of the city aims to provide the highest level of quality care to high-risk mothers and their newborns. Mothers that have perinatal complications or are at risk for early delivery can be transferred to North Central Baptist Hospital for a higher level of care.

High Quality Care
The patient’s first contact is with highly skilled obstetricians, and perinatology consultation is available. Pediatric surgery and pediatric sub-specialty are available for babies at any gestational age. Babies needing pediatric cardiac surgery and those with congenital neurological disorders should not be transferred.

The NICU at North Central Baptist Hospital
The North Central Baptist Hospital Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) provides exceptional and compassionate care for newborn babies. The NICU multi-disciplinary team consists of nurses, neonatal nurse practitioners, neonatologists, respiratory therapists, case managers and lactation consultants.

It is better for both mom and baby if mothers are transferred prior to giving birth as this can reduce risk and increase the continuity of care for the baby. At North Central Baptist Hospital we offer a 24-bed Level IIIB Neonatal Intensive Care Unit for very sick babies. Experienced neonatologists specialize in the care of premature babies born with complex medical issues.

About the Staff
The staff, made up of board-certified obstetricians, is readily available and encompasses the expertise, technical skills and clinical judgment that are vital for the health of your patient. Consultation by a perinatologist is also available.

Emergency Transfers
In an emergency transfer, San Antonio AirLIFE is available to provide helicopter transport. AirLIFE’s in-flight medical crew is maternal transfer trained and can provide assessments and advanced medical intervention if necessary. For example, flight time from San Antonio to Laredo is less than 60 minutes!

For more information about San Antonio AirLIFE, call (800) AIR–MICU or (800) 274–6428.  One call from the referring physician is all it takes to ensure the safety of mom and baby.
